Oubliez l'Union europ\u00e9enne ou l'Eurovision, peu de choses rapprochent les Europ\u00e9ens autant que le football. Des millions de fans se sont rendus en Allemagne le mois dernier pour la 17e \u00e9dition du championnat d'Europe de l'UEFA. En tant qu'\u00e9cologiste, on peut probablement consid\u00e9rer que c'est le championnat le plus vert de tous les temps.<\/p>

Alors que le monde se r\u00e9chauffe, on a souvent l\u2019impression que les instances dirigeantes et les \u00e9quipes de football se trouvent sur une autre plan\u00e8te. L\u2019ancien pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019UEFA Michel Platini a d\u00e9fendu sa d\u00e9cision d\u2019organiser l\u2019Euro 2021 dans 11 pays diff\u00e9rents, la qualifiant d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement \u00ab romantique \u00bb unique pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer le 60e anniversaire de la comp\u00e9tition. Il n\u2019y a rien de plus romantique que de polluer la plan\u00e8te. La prochaine Coupe du monde de la FIFA se jouera sur l\u2019ensemble du territoire nord-am\u00e9ricain.<\/p>

Dans ce contexte, l'Euro 2024 a \u00e9t\u00e9 un succ\u00e8s relatif. Les transports ferroviaires subventionn\u00e9s et les matches de la phase de groupe regroup\u00e9s au niveau r\u00e9gional ont permis \u00e0 un plus grand nombre de supporters de voyager en train que jamais auparavant.<\/p>

Mais dans un tournoi o\u00f9 de jeunes superstars sont n\u00e9es (Yamal) et d'autres ont disparu (Cristiano Ronaldo), nous nous tournons vers ces ic\u00f4nes pour montrer l'exemple. Comment les \u00e9quipes se sont-elles comport\u00e9es en termes de durabilit\u00e9 ?<\/p>

Il y a eu quelques succ\u00e8s notables. L'\u00e9quipe allemande, h\u00f4te, \u00e9tait pr\u00eate \u00e0 r\u00e9duire son empreinte carbone et a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 \u00e9viter de prendre l'avion pour tous ses matchs de la phase de groupes, r\u00e9duisant ainsi le nombre total de matches disput\u00e9s. 97% de leurs \u00e9missions<\/a>.<\/p>

La Suisse a \u00e9t\u00e9 encore plus passionnante. L'\u00e9quipe suisse a fait figure de leader, effectuant 5 des 6 d\u00e9placements en train pour se rendre aux 3 matchs. De plus, elle a non seulement ouvert la voie aux Allemands pendant la phase de groupe, mais a \u00e9galement voyag\u00e9 en train pour se rendre en Allemagne, ce qui rend la r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions encore plus remarquable.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

La Roumanie s'est distingu\u00e9e en voyageant en train pour 4 des 6 d\u00e9placements pour se rendre \u00e0 ses matchs, se classant troisi\u00e8me sur le podium des voyages durables, suivie de la Pologne qui a pris le train deux fois, et de la Belgique qui l'a fait une fois.<\/p>

L\u2019UEFA a certes tent\u00e9 de faciliter ce passage de l\u2019avion au train avec son plan de durabilit\u00e9, qui a port\u00e9 ses fruits dans certains cas. Mais ces incitations n\u2019ont pas sembl\u00e9 suffire \u00e0 convaincre les autres \u00e9quipes, qui ont fait la sourde oreille.<\/p>

Sur le podium des \u00e9quipes les moins \u00e9co-responsables, on retrouve l'\u00e9quipe anglaise, dont le voyage comprenait un vol de 28 minutes seulement. L'Angleterre est suivie par l'Espagne et la Turquie, cette derni\u00e8re ayant pris un vol de 25 minutes seulement. Des vols aussi courts sont particuli\u00e8rement aga\u00e7ants, alors que d'autres \u00e9quipes et de nombreux supporters s'efforcent de r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions li\u00e9es \u00e0 leurs d\u00e9placements.<\/p>

Certes, on a souvent l'impression que les instances dirigeantes et les \u00e9quipes de football se trouvent sur une autre plan\u00e8te et que les efforts de l'UEFA ne sont pas suffisants. Mais cela s'est av\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00eatre un premier pas, car les grandes \u00e9quipes de football r\u00e9\u00e9crivent ce qui est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme normal lorsqu'on passe d'un match de football \u00e0 un autre. Prenez l'exemple du h\u00e9ros du football allemand Niclas F\u00fcllkrug, qui a voyag\u00e9 seul en train au lieu de prendre l'avion, pour le plus grand plaisir de ses compagnons de voyage.<\/p>

Les Championnats d'Europe f\u00e9minins 2025 auront lieu l'ann\u00e9e prochaine en Suisse, dont la centralit\u00e9 g\u00e9ographique constitue le terrain id\u00e9al pour poursuivre sur cette voie durable et la rendre encore meilleure.<\/p>

Les femmes parviendront-elles \u00e0 vaincre les hommes lors du tournoi le plus vert de l'histoire ?
