Toch is dit al jaren het geval. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportenvironment.org\/articles\/economics-of-air-transport-in-europe-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nieuw onderzoek<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> door de <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/neweconomics.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stichting Nieuwe Economie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in opdracht van <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportenvironment.org\/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=1746291099&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADdSzN-vwKeeIbC3-cGDtcocI2GTU&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiA_dDIBhB6EiwAvzc1cB0Xbv0qYr5voWTl6J7NyfrkaDpkxli4UIdZb4oYtemFnRqKaJ-y3RoC1WgQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reis- en verblijfskosten<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, concludeert dat de door de luchtvaart aangedreven groei van het toerisme in heel Europa een ernstige huisvestingscrisis in de hand werkt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De landen die hier het meest door worden getroffen zijn Spanje, Portugal, Itali\u00eb, Griekenland en Ierland, waar de gemiddelde jaarlijkse huurprijzen de komende vijf jaar naar verwachting met maximaal 250 euro per jaar zullen stijgen. Zo bijvoorbeeld, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aena.es\/en\/press\/aena-proposes-investments-of-approximately-13-billion-for-airports-in-spain.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spanje heeft 12,9 miljard euro toegezegd<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> voor investeringen in luchthavens, waaronder de uitbreiding van de luchthavens van Barcelona en Madrid. Er wordt geen rekening gehouden met de manier waarop de groei van het luchttoerisme onder meer de huurprijzen opdrijft en de huisvestingscrisis aanwakkert, naast andere belangrijke lokale problemen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Als je in de toeristische sector werkt, vertaalt deze groei zich niet altijd in betere lonen; sterker nog, je krijgt vaak te maken met de laagste lonen, terwijl de kosten van levensonderhoud en de huurprijzen omhoogschieten. Op het gebied van accommodatie gaat een groot deel van de toeristische uitgaven naar grote hotelketens, niet naar lokale bedrijven. En tot overmaat van ramp steken investeerders hun geld in vastgoed in plaats van in innovatieve sectoren zoals technologie, of elektrische voertuigen en treinen die cruciaal zijn voor de overstap naar schone energie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dit roept een fundamentele vraag op over hoe we onze vakantie invullen: <strong>Is het echt nodig om in het vliegtuig te stappen om Europese bestemmingen te bezoeken die nu al bezwijken onder het gewicht van het overtoerisme?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voor veel van de meest vervuilende korteafstandsroutes in Europa bestaan er daadwerkelijk alternatieven per trein die minder dan acht uur duren. Zo duurt een reis van Parijs naar Barcelona minder dan zeven uur en kan de reis van Milaan naar Parijs in ongeveer dezelfde tijd worden afgelegd. Kiezen voor de trein in plaats van het vliegtuig zorgt niet alleen voor een drastische vermindering van de uitstoot, maar opent ook de toegang tot minder bekende bestemmingen onderweg. Door over land te reizen, kunnen we het toerisme op een natuurlijke manier spreiden en de druk op overvolle stedelijke centra verlichten.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Er is inderdaad een veel grotere concentratie van toeristische overnachtingen in de top drie van regio\u2019s die door buitenlandse bezoekers (die grotendeels per vliegtuig reizen) worden bezocht dan door binnenlandse reizigers (die grotendeels over land reizen). In Oostenrijk bijvoorbeeld concentreren buitenlandse bezoekers 74% van hun overnachtingen in de drie meest bezochte regio\u2019s, terwijl binnenlandse reizigers slechts 48% van hun overnachtingen daar doorbrengen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Om de uitstoot te verminderen en doelgericht reizen te innoveren, zijn gerichte maatregelen nodig: het terugdringen van premium-, langeafstands- en frequente vliegreizen, en het maximaliseren van treinreizen door te kiezen voor bestemmingen dichter bij huis.
