The Premium Flyers Solidarity Coalition is responsible to develop proposals targeting undertaxed sectors that contribute significantly to global carbon emissions and benefit extensively from globalisation. The Coalition is made of 13 countries, including two from high income economies (France and Spain).
At COP30, they called for taxes on private and business/first-class flights at COP30. The aim is simple: those who pollute the most should pay the most. While approaches differ by country, the shared idea is to tax luxury air travel and use the revenue into climate action.
These solidarity levies can raise funds for climate and development initiatives, while addressing the inequality and environmental impact of luxury air travel, which primarily benefits the wealthy yet disproportionately harms the climate.
