Singapore introduces air travel levy to fund sustainable aviation fuel

Singapore Government
February 2026

Travelers departing from Singapore will soon face a new charge on their air tickets, as authorities introduce a levy to support the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Starting April 1, tickets purchased for departures from Changi International Airport will include an additional fee ranging from SGD 1 to SGD 41.60. The amount will vary depending on the distance traveled and the passenger’s cabin class.

Under the new structure, economy-class passengers flying short-haul routes within Southeast Asia will pay the lowest charge. In contrast, travelers flying long-haul routes in premium cabins, including flights to the Americas, will face the highest levy.

As decarbonising aviation is critical to remaining on the 1.5°C pathway, ticket levies are increasingly being adopted by governments to help accelerate the shift toward cleaner fuels and technologies.
