Netherlands to Raise Private Jet Taxes Starting in 2030

November 2025

The Netherlands has approved a plan to increase taxes on private jet travel starting in 2030. Under the new system, passengers will be charged based on flight distance: €420 for trips up to 2,000 km, €1,015 for flights between 2,000 and 5,500 km, and €2,100 for longer journeys.

At present, private jets are taxed according to aircraft weight, similar to commercial planes. This will change in 2027, when the country transitions all aviation taxes to a distance-based model. Private jets will follow the same rules as commercial flights until 2030, when the new private-jet-specific fees take effect.

Lawmakers behind the proposal argued that the “polluter pays” principle should apply equally to the wealthiest travelers, who are among the highest emitters.
